Oculus Quest 2 gross sales figures show VR has lastly gone mainstream
Overall, the Oculus Quest 2 sold more units than all of the other Oculus headsets combined. The milestone was recently announced by Facebook Reality Labs Vice President Andrew Bosworth and shows that VR is finally reaching the mainstream.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Bosworth said that Oculus Quest 2 sales “are a huge indicator that we are now at the point where we have moved from the early adopters to an increasingly mainstream crowd. ”
While we don’t have exact numbers on how many Oculus Quest 2 were sold, we now know that in just over five months they’ve managed to sell headsets like the Oculus Rift that have been around for five years. Other VR device manufacturers are likely to take note of this success – the rumored Valve Index 2 wireless and Apple wireless headset could soon become a reality and will likely be watching closely what made the Oculus wireless headsets so successful.
Why did the Oculus Quest 2 sell so well?
When we tested the Oculus Quest 2, we absolutely admired what Facebook has to offer us. The VR experiences were fantastic, the device was easy to use and, above all, comfortable to wear.
All of this has been packaged into a product that costs less than almost any other VR headset on the market. That’s before you even consider the extra savings you’ll get if you don’t need a powerful PC to run it like you would with the Quest Rift S – although you can optionally plug it into a PC, to take advantage of the high-end PC VR experiences.
With that in mind, it seems obvious that Quest 2 would be successful – especially in a year when many of us were confined to their homes and virtual escapes might have been our only options for exploring anything else.
Hopefully Facebook is making more great VR headsets and we can’t wait to see what an Oculus Quest 3 could bring us.
