The Oculus Quest 2 is already probably the most used VR headset on Steam – KitGuru
The Oculus Quest 1 rocked the virtual reality platform by introducing a functional and competitive standalone VR headset. This was twice the case with Quest 2, which started last October. The launch of the Quest 2 was quick, and the headset has already become the most widely used VR headset on Steam.
According to Steam, the Oculus Quest 2 employed 22.91% of all Steam VR users in February 2021. This makes the Quest 2 the most widely used VR headset on the platform. In second place is the Oculus Rift S with an adoption rate of 21.58%. Valve’s Index took third place with a market acceptance of 16%.
Taking the top spot, the Oculus Quest 2 is impressive for several reasons. First, the headset wasn’t launched until last October, which means it did this feat in just four months. Second, Quest’s main selling point is the ability to use the headset without a PC. In this mode, the Quest 2 accesses the Oculus Store and not Steam, which means that the Quest 2 took first place even though Steam VR is not its primary platform.
While the owners of Oculus, Facebook, have made some questionable decisions regarding the Quest platform, such as: For example, requiring all users to log in with a Facebook account, there is no denying that the Quest 2 is a great VR headset that is impressive value for money. It will be interesting to see what it has planned for Quest 3.
KitGuru says: Do you own a VR headset? If so, which headset? Are you surprised to see Quest 2 above? Let us know below.
