The updates for Oculus Quest 2 keep rolling making one of the best virtual reality headsets even better. Just last week, an update was released on the VR headset that makes it easier to track furniture in your play area. Now there’s also news about refresh rate improvements for Quest 2.
Andrew ‘Boz’ Bosworth, vice president of Facebook Reality Labs, had previously beefed up a 120Hz mode for the headset, but that should happen sooner rather than later. As noted by RoadtoVR, Oculus tipster lja Z indicates that the feature has already been added to the developer roadmap for the system. As early as March 2021, 120 Hz support may enter an experimental beta phase, where developers can test their applications at the refresh rate in the headset before a broader roll out to the Oculus Quest 2 user base as a whole.
After 120 Hz had already risen from 72 Hz to 90 Hz, 120 Hz would probably push the processor hardware integrated in Quest 2 to its limits in all but the simplest games. However, when implemented in the Oculus Link Features, the part of the Oculus platform that allows gamers to plug their headsets into a souped-up gaming PC, it could prove very effective in making even demanding games a smoother and more comfortable experience Movement without the function will result in limitations on battery life or the mobile CPU / GPU.
