Oculus Quest 2 Offered a Report-Breaking 1.four Million Models in This fall 2020

This is most of what a VR device without a smartphone sold in one quarter.

Good VR hardware usually costs an arm and a leg. When the Oculus Quest 2 hit the market in Holiday 2020 with the promise of solid hardware and actually reasonable prices, it was immediately clear that the new VR headset was going to sell a lot despite the problems with forced Facebook connectivity. Now we know how much it sold in the first few months and the numbers are very impressive.

According to a report from SuperData, Oculus Quest 2 sold 1.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2020. This is the highest VR device not powered by smartphones in a single quarter. SuperData predicts the Quest 2 will account for around 87% of all VR headset sales in 2021, which is impressive in every way.

And how did other VR devices fare in the fourth quarter of 2020? PlayStation VR was the second highest-selling device of the time, though it lagged the Quest 2 with a massive void, selling 125,000 units in the fourth quarter. Valve Index sold 61,000 units while the Oculus Rift / Rift S sold around 55,000 units in total.

Ubisoft is currently developing VR titles in the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell franchises, which will be exclusively available for Oculus devices. Read more about it here.
