Strolling Lifeless, FNAF & Extra Oculus Quest 2 Horror Titles for After RE4 VR
Resident Evil 4 VR changed the way gamers think about the classic horror title, but franchises like Walking Dead and FNAF are simply at home on Quest 2.
Now that Resident Evil 4 VR has been released and completed on Oculus Quest 2, gamers may be wondering how they’re going to get their next virtual reality horror. Thanks to Resident Evil 4 VR, players were able to experience the action horror game from 2005 from a whole new perspective. Though dating from the GameCube era, critics and fans alike have hailed this iteration of the game for redesigning their take on the original content and offering a fresh perspective on the controversially best Resident Evil game in the series.
But now that Leon Kennedy has survived the adventure, what’s next for VR horror enthusiasts? Games on Oculus Quest 2 come in all shapes and sizes, and browsing the extensive catalog of games can be quite time-consuming. Fortunately, there are several titles on the Oculus Quest 2 ready to test players’ courage as they scratch and scrape their way through virtual reality.
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners
In the face of the zombie apocalypse The Walking Dead is famous for, Saint & Sinners challenge players to shoot, pillage, and hack their way through a zombie-infested New Orleans. Along the way, Saints & Sinners forces players to test their morale and make difficult decisions that will determine who lives and who dies. There are numerous ways to survive the ordeal, including sneaking around enemies or killing anything and everything that looks hungry. As the title suggests, players in the city of New Orleans can be saints or sinners, show empathy towards other characters, or just violently take whatever they want. Spatial awareness adds another layer of complexity to the game as players have to pay attention to the sounds they are making so as not to attract unwanted attention.
Affected: The Manor – Complete Edition
Affected: The Manor is more on the horror than the action side, inviting players to explore a spooky mansion – and escape. If Resident Evil 4 VR wasn’t scary enough already, players in Affected: The Manor will be jumping out of their skin in no time. The Complete Edition is relatively inexpensive when compared to Resident Evil 4 VR at just $ 9.99 and offers the game’s original haunted house walk-through experience plus two additional modes. Gauntlet mode is a speed run that rates how long it took a player to escape and how many times they yelled throughout the experience. In DARKNESS mode, players walk through the mansion with nothing but a candle, adding to the fire for further horrors. As the first game in an upcoming trilogy, now is the perfect time to jump into this series.
Lies under
Lies Beneath has a unique design that puts players in a comic book-like world, complete with chapters, special effects, and story beats that hint at the medium. Mae, a college student, returns to Slumber, Alaska, where she must fight through horror to save her father and protect her sanity. As well as facing evil personified, Mae battles her past personal demons and creates a deeper story than what lies on the surface of Lies Beneath. The cell shading used by the game gives it a unique feel and sets it apart from other games in the VR market. Its unique aesthetic combined with the injection of action elements make it a fun continuation of the running, shooting and puzzle solving in Resident Evil 4 VR.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help wanted
Players of all ages, especially jump car fans, should have heard of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series by now. The original game takes place in a children’s pizzeria, where live animatronics stalk the halls at night; the player has to survive the night shift for five nights. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted is here to say that all of the stories about their brand are made up delusions of a maniac, and Fazbear Entertainment created this VR game to make fun of the idea of the haunted fast food pizza do. Help Wanted is arguably the most polished and scariest post in the series, recreating the first four games in the series in VR and adding additional game modes that are new to the series. Veterans of the series will find plenty to fall in love with here, but it’s also a great place to start for newbies looking to get scared.
After the fall
While After The Fall isn’t out in stores just yet, it appears to be the next biggest zombie-killing gorefest on Oculus Quest 2. In a world where the earth froze over in the 1980s, LA survivors must murder hordes of what they call the “snow race,” loot as much of the corpses as possible, and survive in a harsh winter environment. Best known for another VR title, Arizona Sunshine, Vertigo Games takes a lot of inspiration from the Left 4 Dead series and creates a co-op survival experience for up to four players. Players who are still working their way through every nook and cranny of Resident Evil 4 VR will have a little more time to save the president’s daughter, as After The Fall won’t be released until December 9, 2021.
