purchase an Oculus Quest 2 this Cyber Monday

Aside from a few cheap theater tickets, I didn’t buy anything on the Cyber Monday deals. But if I hadn’t given in a few months ago, the Oculus Quest 2 would definitely be on my shopping list, especially since Amazon.com is currently giving away $ 50 in credit with every sale.

After using a lot of it over the past few months, I can say it should be on your Cyber Monday list too, even if your interactions with VR have been just that so far. Obviously, it isn’t hard to find a glowing Oculus Quest 2 review, but my experience was just brilliant.

I’m not exactly new to VR as I used the original Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR. But while all of this was mighty impressive in its own way, the fiddly setup and constant adjustment of the cameras always put me off when I wanted a quick session. None of them offered the immediacy or immersion that I believe VR needs to be successful.

With its internal cameras and the lack of cables, the Oculus Quest 2 fixes all of that. Just put on your clothes, draw the safe area in the room you’re in, and you’re good to go.

And the new way to play PC games wirelessly is also a game changer. I was a little skeptical that it would work fine in my house, but I can play Half Life Alyx (also 50% off Cyber Monday) from the bottom of my gaming PC with no apparent performance issues. I can’t stress how brilliant this is, given that Alyx sat unloved in my Steam library for over a year because I couldn’t bother moving my PC to a room where I could move around without one Risk of injury.

Not that the experiences designed specifically for Oculus Quest aren’t top-notch, and that’s another reason to get one for Cyber Monday. While the $ 50 hardware purchase gift card is nice, the Oculus Digital Store has a sale too, and I highly recommend some of the discounted games.

After getting people bloody at Richie’s Plank Experience (sadly not discounted), SuperHot VR is my favorite game to show how brilliant the medium can be, and it has dropped to $ 18.99. Once you’ve got your eye, a stroll through the zombie-filled world of Arizona Sunshine (up to $ 23.99) or “hide and seek” with dinosaurs in Jurassic World Aftermath (up to $ 17.99) will always get your heart racing beat. For something more calming, the trance-inducing world of Tetris Effect: Connected is worth a try, even at the current price of $ 17.99.

For complete immersion, In Death Unchained (now $ 19.49) is great in a Souls-esque way. While Star Wars fans are sure to want to make a nerd in both the Vader Immortal Trilogy ($ 14.99) and Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge (also $ 14.99).

Unfortunately, neither Beat Saber nor The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – two of the best VR games – are currently reduced. But there is still much to be done and more than enough to convert you.

Of course, many people hesitate to try the Oculus Quest 2 because a Facebook account is required. The good news is that Meta has announced that it won’t need to do this anytime soon – not in time for Cyber Monday of course, but it can’t hurt to get one now and play the waiting game. Or take matters into your own hands, I suppose.

The Oculus Quest 2 was brilliant for me, taking VR from something that is technically wonderful but is so fun that I can never be bothered, to one that is suitable for a quick try whenever the mood gets me needs. If I didn’t already have one, it would already be in my virtual shopping cart this Cyber Monday.
