Oculus Quest 2 is now the preferred VR headset on Steam

Valve’s latest SteamVR poll results are in, and the new numbers show fantastic growth for the Oculus install base. Quest 2 is now the most widely used VR headset on the SteamVR platform.

Facebook released the Oculus Quest 2 headset in October 2020. In its brief five month existence, the Quest 2 has dwarfed the install base of all other VR headsets on the market, giving Oculus a dominant lead in headsets sold.

According to Valve, Quest 2 owners make up 22.91% of all SteamVR users, while another 21.58% use a Rift S headset. Oculus owns another 13.49%, with the original Rift and the Quest headsets added. Overall, Oculus is responsible for 57.98% of all VR headsets used on the Valve platform.

HTC has the second largest installation base. 17.24% of SteamVR users use HTC headsets. The HTC Vive holds the lion’s share of HTC’s market share with 13.05% of SteamVR users. 2.15% of SteamVR users use a Vive Pro, 1.04% White use a Cosmos, and 1% use a Cosmos Elite. From these numbers it can be seen that Oculus is kicking HTC in the butt in this industry.

Valve, which only has one VR headset on the market, rounds out third place with 16% of the market. Pimax is hardly a slip on the radar with Pimax 5K Plus, 8K and Artisan. Less than 0.5% of SteamVR users use Pimax headsets.
