Oculus Quest 2 is giving out free silicone covers because of pores and skin irritation points

The Oculus Quest 2 has a removable foam facial interface that causes skin irritation in a small number of players, so Oculus has recalled the part and is offering a free silicone case. Additionally, Quest 2 sales are halted while Facebook works to add the silicone case to each package and increase the base model’s 64GB storage to 128GB for the same price.

In December, Oculus confirmed reports of skin irritation “from approximately 0.01% of people who use Quest 2,” stating that “the vast majority of cases are mild and should resolve on their own”. Separately, the company said it is researching the problem with experts in dermatology and toxicology to better understand its nature. At that point, Oculus said it was working on a tool that would allow people to request a replacement part for free.

Then, in April, Oculus offered an update that said it had “identified some trace substances normally found in the manufacturing process” that were “already below industry standards,” but could independently contribute to skin conditions. Despite consulting with experts who reportedly described trace levels as “extremely low,” Oculus said it has taken steps to lower levels further in hopes of reducing the risk of skin irritation in Oculus Quest 2 users .

Today Facebook is offering a free silicone case to be placed over the foam part that causes skin irritation. In addition, sales of Oculus Quest 2 will be temporarily suspended worldwide and the new silicone part will be packaged in all future units from August 24th. Starting on the same date, the Oculus Quest 2 headset will now have 128GB of storage instead of the previous 64GB for $ 299. while the 256GB continues to sell for $ 399.

Oculus says all you have to do is sign in to your account with your Oculus ID and then go to My Devices to submit a request to get your silicone case. However, at the time of writing, we were unable to access the tool. This is not entirely uncommon as it is only just being rolled out today, but it is worth mentioning in case you are having problems as well.
