Oculus Quest 2 Gross sales Surpass Previous Fashions in 6 Months
Oculus Quest 2 sales have been pretty darn good. According to Andrew Bosworth, VP of Facebook Reality Labs, the latest virtual reality headset outperformed all its predecessors – put together.
The Oculus Quest 2 was officially launched as a replacement for the Oculus Quest back in September last year and had some notable improvements. Crucially, this particular VR headset is more than just a headset – it’s essentially a stand-alone computer that rests on top of your head.
The concept is definitely appealing, and it looks like people liked the concept: a Facebook vice president stated that this latest piece of VR technology has sold better than any other headset so far.
Oculus Quest 2 Sales Reach “An Increasingly Mainstream Mass”
In a recent interview with Bloomberg (via UploadVR), Andrew Bosworth, Vice President of Reality Labs at Facebook, said the Oculus Quest 2 sold very well. In fact, it left its ancestors in the dust.
“So it feels like we’ve talked about the potential and the promise [of VR] For a long time, “began Bloomberg’s Emily Chang.” I remember the moment when Facebook bought Oculus in 2014 and it hasn’t had that mainstream moment if you will. When does this happen? Is it still free for a couple of years? “
If you look closely I think it’s just happening, “answered Bosworth.” The fact that Oculus Quest 2 will be on the market in just a few months not only has its predecessor, but all of its oversold products put together are a huge indicator that we are now at the point where we are from the Mass of early adopters have prevailed into an increasingly mainstream mass. “
Bosworth hasn’t specified the exact reason it’s selling so well, but there is one clearly contributing factor: much lower cost.
“”[We’re] Five years after the anniversary of the introduction of the first Oculus headset, the Oculus Rift. This headset had a total cost of ownership of almost $ 2,000 when you took the initial price – and it had to be plugged into a pretty beefy gaming PC to work at all. And today you have the Oculus Quest 2 and you can get this thing for $ 299. That’s an incredible drop in price in a relatively short time.
Judging from these comments, the Oculus Quest 2 appears to have been a phenomenal success in its first six months of sales. You can now purchase an Oculus Quest 2 starting at $ 299 or regional equivalent.
What do you think of Oculus Quest 2 sales that collectively outperform all previous Oculus headsets? Are you interested in a standalone VR headset or would you prefer to own one that is connected to a gaming PC or gaming console? Let us know in the comments below!
