Microsoft Mesh will assist Hololens 2, Oculus Quest 2, and different VR/AR headsets

During Microsoft Ignite, the new Microsoft Mesh program was released, which enables “shared holographic experiences” on various mixed reality platforms.

With virtual reality and augmented reality advancing in terms of technology and application, Microsoft had some new things to show during its Microsoft Ignite presentation. Perhaps most notable was the introduction of Microsoft Mesh, a new technology for the shared holographic experience that allows different users to experience and interact with the same mixed reality application using Microsoft’s Azure cloud-based data system. In addition, it could be available in about a year.

Microsoft Mesh was unveiled by Microsoft Technical Fellow Alex Kipman during the Microsoft Ignite presentation on March 2, 2021. What is Microsoft Mesh It is a shared mixed reality experience technology that uses Microsoft’s Azure cloud data network to provide augmented reality and virtual reality experiences to multiple users at the same time. As shown in the video below, Microsoft Mesh can enable multiple users on individual AR / VR platforms to share and interact with shared and customizable holographic experiences.

Microsoft Mesh has a wide variety of uses including presentation, design, engineering, and more. A gathering could host a virtual reality presentation, tourists in an aquarium could observe various facts about various marine life in real time, and multiple engineers could simultaneously observe and interact with 3D holographic designs and optimizations via mesh, to name a few examples. Additionally, Mesh support has been confirmed through Microsoft’s HoloLens, Oculus Quest 2 standalone VR headset, and other supported AR / VR HMDs. Microsoft Mesh also seems to be very versatile.

Currently, Microsoft expects Microsoft Mesh to be up and running in just a year (possibly early 2022), but no specific date has been announced at this point. Stay tuned as we follow this story for more details about Microsoft Mesh, including full platform availability, specs, release date, and more.
