How To Watch Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix On Oculus Quest 2
Want to watch streaming services like Disney +, Netflix, and more on Oculus Quest? Here’s our guide to what’s available and how best to do it.
We also have an entire guide on How to Watch TV Shows and Movies on Oculus Quest – this guide focuses more on all the different services and apps, not just streaming services that allow you to watch movies and TV shows, both paid and free . with apps like Bigscreen and YouTube VR. Check this for other options when you’ve filled your streaming services and are looking for something else to watch.
Native apps vs. Oculus browser
There are two ways to use streaming services on Oculus Quest. A native app is available for some streaming services like Netflix – that means you can download a Netflix app from the Oculus Store and watch Netflix in a log cabin setting in VR the same way you start a game when you want to play it.
With some services, it is possible to use the Oculus Browser to log in and stream content through a browser window, just like a PC. This is useful for apps that don’t already have Quest native apps, such as: B. Disney +. You can even switch to full screen mode to keep everything else out of sight if you want.
The other benefit of using the Oculus Browser is that you can use the passthrough home environment – so you can view something in a browser window while keeping an eye on your surroundings with the passthrough view. You can also open multiple tabs to work on something else or to browse the web while watching.
However, not everything works with the Oculus Browser – we had mixed results when testing streaming services over it.
Netflix on Oculus Quest 2
Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services in the world. Fortunately, there is also a native app for Oculus Quest.
The Netflix app can be downloaded for free from the Oculus Store and puts you in a small, cozy cabin with a large screen (see image above), on which you can browse and play Netflix content from your region. Unlike Bigscreen, however, there is no way to use the Netflix app to watch with friends or in any social function. In addition, according to Netflix, the video stream is limited to 480p, so the films do not look super sharp.
Unfortunately Netflix Not work on the Oculus browser, so the native app is your only option.
Disney + on Oculus Quest 2
Disney + hasn’t launched a native app for a VR headset, let alone for the Oculus Quest. As far as we know, there are no indications of any plans to launch a VR app.
However, Disney + works with the Oculus Browser as pictured above – just open a new tab and log into Disney + as you would on a computer. Everything should go smoothly and you will be streaming shows in no time.
Prime video for Oculus Quest 2
Amazon Prime Video has a native app for Oculus Quest headsets. Access to Prime Video is included in Amazon Prime. So just log into your Amazon account and you’re good to go. You can play movies and TV shows included with Prime and watch them in a virtual theater. There is also a small selection of VR movie content.
Prime Video also works in the Oculus Browser, but with the restriction that it only streams in standard definition. If you want to watch Prime Video in passthrough mode or with other tabs open, this should work great.
Hulu, Peacock, and other streaming services
Other popular streaming services like Hulu and Peacock don’t currently offer Quest native apps. We haven’t been able to try all of the services in the Oculus Browser, but you can log in to any streaming service yourself and see if it works – so far we’ve found that Netflix is the only one that doesn’t.
