Fb Halts Oculus Quest 2 Gross sales Over Pores and skin Irritation Problem

Sales of the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset have been temporarily suspended worldwide, and the company has started a “voluntary joint recall” in the US and Canada.

The recall comes after complaints from what Facebook calls a “0.01%” problem with the Quest 2’s foam cover resting against your head while using the VR headset. Some users reported problems ranging from puffiness, bumps, and redness, according to the Oculus blog, and the problem was already so serious that Oculus hired dermatologists to investigate.

“These experts have advised us that this irritation is not an allergic reaction or a serious medical condition and should go away on its own. However, we are sharing more information about it out of caution, ”wrote Facebook.

The irritation is apparently so severe, however, that Facebook is recalling the headset’s “removable foam facial interface with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada”. The foam case is not being recalled anywhere outside of these two countries, but the VR headset has been discontinued to give Oculus time to replace the silicone case for future Quest 2 sales.

“Oculus recently took action to respond to a very small percentage of users reporting a generally mild skin irritation with the foam portion of the Quest 2 facial interface resting on the skin. The safety and comfort of each customer are our top priority. As part of this commitment, we are now offering Quest 2 Headsets and Quest 2 Fit Pack owners a free silicone case“Oculus wrote.

Australian users can request through this page to receive their free silicone case that will fit over the Quest 2’s existing detachable foam case. The FAQ page adds that if any irritation occurs, users should “immediately stop using the detachable foam facial interface” until they receive a free silicone case from Facebook.

The Oculus Quest 2 will return to international stores on August 24th. At the same time, a new SKU with 128 GB of storage will be introduced, replacing the current 64 GB headset as the basic version. All Quest 2 models from August 24th will also come with the new silicone case.

“We hope that the larger memory size gives users more flexibility to instantly access and manage more content on a single device, while the new silicone case gives users more options with both the 128GB and 256GB Quest having a comfortable experience, ”wrote Facebook.
