Fb’s $299 Oculus Quest 2 VR headset is now accessible
If you’ve been waiting for the right time to immerse yourself in virtual reality, it may have arrived. Devindra Hardawar called the Oculus Quest 2 “The $ 299 VR Headset to Rule Them All” in his review and it’s easy to see why. Lighter and more powerful than its predecessor, the headset can be used either as a standalone device or as a peripheral to deliver experiences that require a powerful PC. If you’ve pre-ordered then it should be well on its way, otherwise they’re available through Oculus or Amazon.
In addition to existing VR content, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Rez Infinite and a multiplayer update for Beat Saber are now also available, so there is still a lot to try. The new headset features fast-switching LCDs with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 – 50 percent more pixels than before – and although it is now limited to 72 Hz refresh rate, 90 Hz is supported in a software update.
The fact that it requires a login associated with a Facebook account is worth considering before hitting the buy button, but if you can stand that (and some tricky fit issues) the hardware is ready, the promise to be fulfilled by VR.
