According to the latest Tech Radar report, the Oculus Quest 2 v5 software update features Facebook Messenger. Even the basic version of Oculus Quest supports the popular messaging app too.

This is how the update from Oculus Quest 2 works

With the new update, users can log into their social media accounts through Oculus Quest 2 and the base model of the gadget. Then you can send your friends a message via Facebook Messenger.

The great thing about the new update is that you can send messages even to the users who don’t have an Oculus device. Rumor has it that users can also communicate with their friends’ mobile messenger apps during sessions of games such as Racket Fury and Beat Saber.

“Starting this week, we’ll be rolling out Messenger on Oculus to people who have signed in to Quest and Quest 2 using their Facebook accounts,” Oculus said of its official blog post.

“With this update you can chat with your Facebook friends wherever they have Messenger, even when they are not in VR,” added the developer.

On the other hand, Facebook Technolobies, LLC confirmed that users can send private Oculus party invitations through the messaging app. This new feature makes it easier for you to switch from one multiplayer game to another because the process is faster.

How to use the new feature

Using the new feature is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is write on the VR platform, watch the voice-to-text feature, or use pre-written conversation starters.

Facebook Technologies said the innovation shows that their VR service isn’t just about games. It’s also about broader interactions within and around virtual experiences. In addition to supporting the Facebook Messenger app, the VR gadget update also includes App Lab, which developers can use to share their latest innovations or other ongoing projects with the Oculus community.
