Oculus Quest Buddies Can Now Launch Into Some VR Apps Collectively
Meeting friends in Oculus Quest can be a little disjointed at times. Facebook is trying to combat this with new updates this week.
The VR giant just released new updates to its Oculus platform (which we assume means both Rift and Quest). The main theme of the improvements is Travel Together, a feature that allows friends in groups to switch directly from their group to a series of specific games instead of individually navigating to the respective app and then finding themselves in a new lobby.
Supported games are Echo VR, Racket: Nx, Synth Riders, Elf Tischtennis, Elven Assassin, Epic Roller Coasters, Arizona Sunshine, Cloudlands 2, Spaceteam VR, Ironlights, Multiverse and Pro Putt from Topgolf. Hopefully Onward will be added to this list for launch next week, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
However, this is not the only change for parties. Facebook is also adding public parties that allow players to join gatherings with friends and new people. You can then switch back to the above list of multiplayer VR games using the “Travel Together” function.
You can finally find your friends on Facebook too. This includes privacy settings that ensure that only the people you want to discover can.
These new features are available as we’re still waiting for news on Facebook Horizon, the company’s new social VR experience set to replace previous efforts like Spaces. It’s currently in alpha testing, although we were hoping to see a beta version earlier this year. Hopefully, features like Travel Together will be carried over to this virtual metaverse as well.
