Will Blended Actuality Change Your Life In 2022?

Some will take a plunge in 2022 and take over the burgeoning applications for VR, MR, and AR.

As I was thinking about what big tech stories we could expect in 2022, I got a question from a reporter who was working on a similar story idea. This person asked if I think VR, MR, or AR would have a significant impact on people’s lives in the New Year. I pointed out that we will have more interest in VR headsets in 2021. Analysts estimate that Oculus will have sold around 10 million headsets in 2021.

We also saw great interest in seeing VR-like headsets rolled out in the field, customer service, and even sales in 2021. Vertical markets tend to be leaders in integrating new technologies like VR and AR as they focus more on solving a specific problem and companies are willing to pay the higher prices for first generation products.

While VR, MR, and AR were on many people’s radar, they received a rocket boost when Mark Zuckerberg launched his version of the Metaverse during a video session where the company name was renamed from Facebook to Meta.

This video has even been viewed a million times by people who had no idea what VR, MR, or AR was all about, but now understand that the Metaverse is going to be a “thing” in the future.

However, 2022 will not be the year when large numbers of tech-savvy people can incorporate VR-MR and AR into their lifestyles. It’s true that for gamers, and as I mentioned in a column recently, VR exercise has become the two most popular apps in the Oculus 2 headset. However, these applications appeal to audiences ages millennia and younger.

The simple answer to this question is that VR-MR and AR won’t have a huge impact on most people’s lives in 2022. The metaverse as Mark Zuckerberg envisioned it is still years away. Although the lives of gamers and those who want to use VR for training have changed in some ways with the use of VR. But most people in 2022 will sit back and watch as other VR MR and AR apps hit the market in 2022 and keep a closer eye on any developments in the Metaverse that might be of interest to them .

Since we’re talking about 2022, in the New Year I have to address one caveat about VR-MR and AR.

There have been a lot of rumors and gossip that Apple should release its first MR-AR headset by the end of 2022. I’m very skeptical that Apple can finish any MR-AR headset in 2022, but given the growing chatter, I can’t rule it out either.

Should that happen, especially if it can be bought during the holiday season, it would be a hot selling item for die-hard Apple followers. These Apple users are adopting new technologies faster than the mainstream market and for these people it would be given the type of AR apps already on the iPhone and iPad and the new AR apps that are finely tuned for each new one Apple headset a huge success and in fact it could still affect your life in the 2022 calendar.

We are in the very early stages of developing a technology that uses VR, MR and AR apps. It will take many technological breakthroughs to develop the kind of devices that would drive the mainstream market to adopt not only these new headsets but the kind of MR-AR apps that are even of interest to them would be. Although VR-MR and AR won’t change 99% of people’s lives in 2022, it is a technology that has received a lot of attention in the western world.

An Apple headset could give this market a huge boost. But I believe it will be 2024-2025 before we see real adoption of the Metaverse by millions of people around the world.
