The Future Is Now | Meta Opens Its First Digital World for Oculus Quest 2 Customers
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, set out on a mission to create its own metaverse – and has taken many steps towards that goal. While this isn’t exactly the metaverse, it is a step in the right direction. Meta recently announced that it would be releasing its first virtual world, Horizon Worlds.
Meet Horizon Worlds
Horizon Worlds is a free app available for the Oculus Quest 2 headset and open to anyone over the age of 18 in the US and Canada.
Horizon Worlds works as a social reality app where users can create their own avatars and explore the virtual world. You can connect with new people or with friends.
In Horizon Worlds, you can play games or chat and interact with other Oculus users.
In short, it is the first step to the metaverse. Earlier this year, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced that the company’s goal was to develop its own version of the Metaverse, a term found in science fiction novels.
The goal of Meta is to create a space in which people can play, interact and even work without leaving the virtual space. This is only the beginning of that goal, but it is a step in the right direction for the company.
In October, Zuckerberg said in an official statement, “Our hope is that within the next decade the Metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars in digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers.” this goal.
Meta also said it would invest up to $ 10 billion in the next year alone to develop the technology needed to create the multiverse.
In the meantime, if you own an Oculus Quest headset and meet the above requirements, you’re ready to start using Horizon Worlds.
