Once upon a time, uninstalling games from an Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 resulted in your game saves being lost. Whether you just want to free up space for the best Quest 2 games or upgrade your headset from an Oculus Quest to an Oculus Quest 2, losing your game saves is terrible as it would mean losing all of your progress in a game. Thanks to Oculus’ cloud storage, you no longer have to choose between free space on your quest and saving your saved games. So make sure this never happens to you.

How to enable cloud save backup on Oculus Quest

  1. Put your Oculus Quest on and press the Home button on the right controller to bring up the universal menu.
  2. Choose Clock / setting field on the left side of the menu bar below.

When cloud backup is enabled, any installed games that support cloud storage will automatically back up those save files to your Oculus account.

How to Manage Your Oculus Cloud Storage

Once cloud backup is enabled, all of the game saves on your headset are automatically backed up to your Oculus account for safe storage. Of course, this applies as long as your app or game of your choice supports cloud backup. To verify that the saved data for a game or app is backed up, you need to open a web browser and navigate to the Oculus website. This can be done on the Quest 2, on your smartphone, or on any computer.

  1. Open a Web browser and navigate to the Oculus website.
  2. Choose Profile icon at the top right of the page. You may need to sign in with your Facebook Oculus account first.

If you want to free up space on your Oculus Quest, only uninstall apps or games that support cloud backup. Otherwise, all app data associated with these titles will be lost as save files are not separated on the quest. This means that if you have made great progress in a game that does not support cloud saves, if you have made great progress in a game that does not support cloud saves, then uninstalling this game will also delete your game saves.

How does the Oculus Cloud store work?

When you progress in a game or save files to an app on the Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2, those save files are in the same location as the game or app. That is, when you uninstall a game or app, the entire files folder will be removed, including any saved game progress or files.

The Oculus Cloud saves work by backing up this stored data to your Oculus account so you can freely uninstall songs without worrying about losing your progress. But not all apps and games support cloud storage yet. This is why it is important to make sure that your apps or games’ saved files are backed up by following the tutorial in the section above.

When you reinstall an app with cloud backup, these backed up files are automatically downloaded to your Oculus Quest during the installation process. That way, you don’t have to worry about whether your saves are correct or not.

The Oculus Link cable is hands down the best way to play SteamVR and Oculus Rift games on the Oculus Quest 2, but it costs almost $ 80. Alternative cables cost a lot less while hitting the same benchmarks, but some of the ones you find on Amazon cannot be trusted. Here are the ones that you should try first.

Both the Quest and Quest 2 came with charging cables, but your original Quest cable may have worn out, while the included Quest 2 cable is too short to use while wearing the headset. Any charging cable with at least one USB-C head can work, but here are our recommendations.
