There are many ways to keep yourself healthy at home, and virtual reality (VR) games can be one of them. Titles like Beat Saber, Synth Riders, OhShape, Thrill of the Fight and many more offer energetic gameplay and there will be another soon, Supernatural by VR Content Company Within.
Supernatural offers a slightly different setup than these other experiences with an on-demand fitness package based on a subscription service. “It was purposely designed from the ground up as a living VR training platform,” said Chris Milk, Founder and CEO of Within, on the Oculus Blog. “We have built an entire ecosystem that offers people an extraordinary training experience that inspires them to come back every day.”
He continued, “The platform was developed in collaboration with fitness experts and behavioral researchers to help people stick to their schedule, not get bored with exercising, and ultimately not stop.”
With gameplay inspired by VR video games like Beat Saber because Supernatural is geared towards fitness, the app features coaching, leaderboards, Bluetooth heart rate integration and a companion mobile app that lets you monitor your progress. Instead of difficulty levels, Supernatural offers a dynamic difficulty level that adjusts the experience on each map in real time based on how well you keep up.
None of this is good if you don’t have decent music to complement the gameplay so that Within brings the latest songs to subscribers. We wanted people to feel that surprise and joy when a song they love comes up, ”notes Milk. “So we worked with record companies to get a contract to use their full catalogs.” Which labels these are still has to be announced.
