Learn how to get Android notifications on Oculus Quest 2

The Oculus Quest 2 brings immersive VR to the masses with ease of use and the best of apps, but you can do more than just play games and watch videos. Android users can sync their notifications to the Oculus Quest 2 from their phone; This is how it works.

So, first of all, why would you want your notifications to be carried over to Quest 2? This feature is useful because you can see important messages, emails, and other notifications right from the headset without taking it off. This is a handy feature as you don’t have to leave the immersive experience entirely just to see if a text needs a timely response.

How to sync Android notifications with Oculus Quest 2

First and foremost, you need to make sure your Oculus Quest 2 is installed to software update version 34 before you can sync Android notifications. This update was made available in November 2021, so it should be available for your Quest 2 by now. You also need a modern Android smartphone with the Oculus app from the Google Play Store installed.

To enable synchronization for Android notifications with the Oculus Quest 2, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Oculus app and pair your headset
  2. Enable notification access for the Oculus app
  3. Pair your Oculus Quest 2 with your Android phone
  4. Enable notification synchronization

Open the Oculus app and make sure your Quest 2 headset is synced with the app. Next, find the equipment Menu that can appear on the bottom line or in the “Menu” section. Once your headset is actively connected to the app, look for Phone notifications under “Headset Settings”. As soon as you tap on it, you’ll see a Continue Button to start the notification authorization menu of Android. Scroll down and Enable notification access for the Oculus app. Then go back.

The next step will ask you to pair your phone with the headset and finally Turn on notifications in the VR area. You can then filter notifications to come from messaging apps, phone calls, and other apps.

This is what an incoming notification from your Android phone looks like on the Oculus Quest 2.
