There are lots of exciting, good-looking apps and games available on Oculus Quest 2, from the bright lights of Beat Saber to the laid-back painting experiences on Color Space, all of which are ripe for screenshots and social media sharing – but how does that work? it? It turned out that there are several ways to take screenshots and videos on the Oculus Quest 2, including a hidden controller shortcut that is not explained during the setup process.
Here we’ll show you how to take, review, and share screenshots on your Oculus Quest 2.
Take a screenshot of Quest 2 using the Oculus Touch controller
The easiest way to take a screenshot is to use the Oculus Touch controllers, but without a dedicated screenshot button, how do I do it? It turns out it’s almost as easy as taking a screenshot on a smartphone – you just need to know which buttons to press.
On your Oculus Touch controllers, simply hold down the Oculus button on the right controller and press the trigger on one of your controllers to take a screenshot.
If this is successful, you should hear the sound of a camera shutter and receive a notification letting you know that you have taken a screenshot.
Take a screenshot or video with Quest 2 using the screen controls
If for some reason you can’t take screenshots with the Oculus Touch controllers, there is a way to trigger the functionality from the virtual world via on-screen controls – but it’s not quite as quick and easy as some would like it to be.
To take a screenshot or video of a virtual game or experience on the Oculus Quest 2 using the onscreen controls, press the Oculus button on the right controller to go to the Oculus menu.
From here you can return to the app, close the app or either start a screenshot or a video, or use the appropriate buttons to cast your view on a local Chromecast device. Select either a screenshot or a video and you will be redirected back to your app and recorded within a few seconds.
How to see screenshots taken on Quest 2
There are two ways to view recorded content on your Oculus Quest 2; via the “Sharing” tab or the “Files” app.
The easiest way to quickly check out recently recorded content is to go to the Share menu – the icon with an arrow on the far right of the updated Oculus toolbar. From here, you can click the icons of recently recorded content to view it.
If you’re looking for an older screenshot or video, it’s better to use the Files app. The Files app is accessible from the Apps menu on the Oculus home screen and provides a way to access all of the data stored on your Quest 2 headset.
After opening the Files app, select the Media tab in the left menu. You can then browse all of the screenshots and videos currently stored on the headset.
Bonus tip: If you’re using Oculus software v32 or higher, you can sync the recordings with the Oculus app on your smartphone. Just tap the cloud icon in the top right corner to activate the feature and open the Oculus app on your smartphone to start the syncing process. Sharing screenshots of Quest 2 has never been easier!
