Are you able to join the Oculus Quest 2 to a TV?

The Oculus Quest 2 is powerful enough to run games entirely on the headset. However, this makes it confusing when a user wants to connect the Oculus Quest 2 to a TV and share the gameplay with friends and family. Fortunately, there is a built-in solution for those who want to cast video from the headset to a TV, although it is not immediately clear how to use it.

How to broadcast Oculus Quest 2 on TV

Users can plug the Oculus Quest 2 into a TV, but there’s a catch. The video on the headset can only be viewed on a TV through Google Cast. Therefore, the television or a device connected to it must be compatible with this standard.

To cast from Oculus Quest 2 to a TV or Chromecast device:

  1. Put on the headset.
  2. Press the Oculus button.
  3. Select “Share”
  4. Select “cast”
  5. Select the device from the list.
  6. Press start “

When the quest begins to work, a small red dot will appear on the user’s periphery. To end the casting, repeat the above steps and select “Stop”.

The headset can also be transferred to a phone or computer. However, there is an additional step to be taken on both devices to do this:

  • Phones: Download and launch the Oculus app.
  • Computer: Go to oculus.com/casting using a Chromium-based web browser (Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome).

There are some casting restrictions. Not all devices may work properly, even if they are compatible with Google Cast. Additionally, casting can reduce the headset’s battery life or cause apps to misbehave.

If you’re using the Oculus Link with a PC, you don’t need to transfer it to a TV. The video is displayed on the screen either via Steam VR or the Oculus app. Since this puts less strain on the battery, the best way to see the gameplay on TV is by using the headset wirelessly.
