System Shock 2 VR Will Have Co-Op, Cross-Play With PC

Nightdive Studios’ upcoming System Shock 2 VR port has full co-op multiplayer support and can even be played with others running the game on PC.

Stephen Kick, Studio CEO, recently confirmed this in an interview with IGN and reiterated that the entire game has been ported to VR as part of a new mode for the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. That means there is full multiplayer support and those who play in a headset can even collaborate with players on a PC.

Kick also cited Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx as the ultimate source of inspiration behind the port was really important in Half-Life: Alyx, and you can do that in System Shock VR too. “

However, VR support will not be launched along with the Enhanced Edition, which is expected to come with the full remake of the first System Shock. Expect it to be added after it launches, although it’s not yet confirmed whether it’s a free update or a premium add-on. At the beginning of the year, Nightdive showed a brief glimpse of the gameplay on the Valve Index.

At the moment, it seems like System Shock 2 VR is coming to PC VR alone – Nightdive hasn’t announced any new platforms for the game. Given that it was first released in 1999, we have some hope that one day the game can run on the Oculus Quest. If Doom 3 can, surely System Shock can, too?
