Oculus Quest 2 Units New Gross sales Document In VR Historical past

The new Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headset reportedly sold more devices in one quarter than any other virtual reality headset in history, but no more than any smartphone virtual reality device like the Samsung Gear VR.

According to an update from SuperData, Oculus Quest 2 sold more than 1 million units in the fourth quarter of 2020 today. The virtual reality device was launched in October 2020, so that sales figure is just two months.

The milestone becomes even more impressive when sales are compared to other virtual reality competitors in the market. PlayStation VR sold more than 125,000 units in the same period. Valve Index and the older Oculus Rift sold around 60,000 and 55,000 units, respectively, between September and December 2020.

Oculus Quest 2 had several advantages at launch. The virtual reality device was initially cheaper than its predecessor at $ 300. The original Oculus Quest sold out for the second time in much of 2020 as manufacturing and supply chains were destroyed by COVID-19. The start around Christmas time was also a great advantage as increasing demand in virtual reality increased sales.

Oculus Quest 2 has now been prepared by analysts to continue the same wave of success through 2021. According to the research company, the device is expected to “account for 87 percent of sales with new VR headsets in 2021”.

Similar to the original Oculus Quest, the update design can be used to play virtual reality games on PC via USB, as well as a standalone headset with an internal Android-based operating system.

In particular, the PC community is expected to rely on Oculus Quest 2 when purchasing a virtual reality headset in the future, as the device can play their favorite PC games at an affordable price.
