Oculus Quest 2 replace brings Fb Messenger to VR

Always wanted to notify your Facebook friends but in VR? Neither do we, but you can still try as the v25 software update brings Facebook Messenger to Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2.

With the update, users signed in to their Facebook accounts on Oculus devices (we bet most people) will be able to chat with Facebook friends who have a device with Messenger.

We believe you can send messages to your friends’ messenger apps between Beat Saber or Racket Fury sessions. Pretty neat.

In a blog post, the company says you can text messages without taking off your Oculus headset by either typing with a virtual keyboard, choosing from pre-written texts, or using Quest’s voice-to-text feature.

Additionally, users can send private Oculus party invitations to others through the messaging app using the VR headset, making it easier to get started with multiplayer games with your friends.

Although the Messenger update seems like a trivial addition, it’s meant to improve the Quest’s ability to interact with the outside world without having to leave VR.

While Oculus devices already have a messenger feature in the Oculus Chats feature (which is only used with people on your Oculus friends list), Facebook Messenger now offers a cross-platform, system-wide option for users who interact with others without a Quest headset want to kick.

Facebook says that using Messenger on the device won’t change your existing Oculus privacy settings and that the v25 update will be available immediately, although some users can expect to wait a few weeks for it to arrive.
