Oculus Quest 2 hailed as Fb pushes VR

Facebook saw strong adoption of its Oculus Quest 2 VR headset in the fourth quarter of 2020, gaining prominence in a market that has been identified as a key growth area.

On a blog, Andrew Bosworth, VP of Facebook Reality Labs said the Oculus Quest 2 was the company’s “fastest growing VR headset” and the number of monthly active Quest users “in less than seven weeks” after it went on sale in October 2020 exceeded.

Bosworth added that “more people are using it for fitness, play and work collaboration,” with more women using the device than any previous headset.

Data from App Annie showed that Facebook’s VR products were particularly popular during the holiday season. The Oculus app was ranked 18th in US iOS downloads on December 25, 2020.

The CEO said Facebook will expand VR capabilities for collaboration, productivity and privacy in 2021 and also plans to launch the first product from a collaboration with Ray-Ban maker Luxottica.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, previously identified VR as a key area of investment. Its results for the third quarter of 2020 indicated that “10 million active units in our VR systems” and a “sufficiently large” user base are planned for independent developers.
