Oculus Quest 2 coming to Xbox Sequence X as PlayStation VR rival for PS5? | Gaming | Leisure

The Oculus Quest 2 has proven to be one of the most popular VR headsets out there. While it has a lot of its own content, it can also connect to PCs and offers additional compatibility options.

So it’s important to keep an eye on what other platforms might be preparing to support virtual reality, with Xbox Series X seemingly the next obvious choice. And it was interesting to see an Xbox error message giving hope to those interested in further assistance.

First discovered by IGN Italy, an error message was displayed saying “An update for the VR headset is available”.

This reportedly happened while trying to connect the new Xbox Wireless Headset to Xbox Series X consoles.

This gave players some hope that Microsoft could build on Xbox VR support, possibly through partnering with others.

And since Oculus Quest 2 is already branched out on different platforms, it can be considered a perfect team.

The only downside is that Microsoft has dispelled rumors of support for Xbox VR, telling The Verge that virtual reality is not currently a focus for the gaming brand.

This includes references to VR in the error message, which is a localization issue. This means it shouldn’t show up in the UK.

The statement shared with The Verge reads, “The copy in this error message is inaccurate due to a localization bug” and adds, “VR for the console is not a focus for us right now.”

Microsoft is currently not preparing any virtual reality surprises for Xbox Series X owners.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t be doing it in a few years, however much later, after the PlayStation VR was released for PS5.

We’re all starting to learn more about Sony’s next-generation VR plans, even though the new headset is not expected to be available until 2022 at the earliest.

The latest news from Sony is regarding the new PSVR controllers and how they work with the PS5.

The new controllers are fundamentally different from the current versions available for purchase and are designed to make immersion easier, an important goal in virtual reality.

Each VR controller (left and right) has an adaptive trigger button that creates a noticeable voltage when pressed, similar to the DualSense controller.

A message from Sony added, “If you’ve played a PS5 game, you will be familiar with the tension in the L2 or R2 buttons when you press them; B. when you draw your bow to fire an arrow. Applying this type of mechanic to VR will take the experience to the next level.

“SIE’s product, engineering and design teams worked together to develop our new VR controller from scratch with the aim of taking a giant leap from the current generation of VR gaming.

“We’re excited about the controller we made, but now it comes down to how game developers use the features to create the next generation of VR experiences.

“Prototypes of our new VR controller will soon be in the hands of the developer community, and we can’t wait to see what ideas they have and how the controller brings their imaginations to life.”
