Oculus Quest 2 brings ‘Hey Fb’ command as experimental characteristic

Oculus Quest 2 users can now navigate hands-free on the VR device thanks to new voice commands. With the optional upgrade, you can use the phrase “Hey Facebook” for hands-free control, whereas previously you had to press the Oculus controller button twice before issuing a command.

As described in a blog post, users can enable the setting in Experimental Features Settings to make it easier to take screenshots, cast or group with friends. Facebook plans to roll out the feature gradually to all Quest 2 users and later to all Quest devices.

According to the Facebook blog post, the new feature enables a more seamless VR experience. For example, if you’re playing Beat Saber, users can say “Hey Facebook, start casting” and the gameplay will start streaming to friends. Before that, the game had to be paused, which interrupted the experience.

Other commands are “Hey Facebook, take a screenshot” and “Hey Facebook, show me who’s online”.

For those concerned about privacy, Facebook says voice commands won’t work when the microphone is off or when the headset is sleeping or off.

Users can also clear their voice command activity, which means curious family members won’t be able to track embarrassing searches.

In the past week, Facebook actively discontinued new features for Quest 2 users. These include upgrades to Guardian Mode, which prevents people from hitting a wall and marking a chair or couch. Facebook also approved the virtual desktop streaming app, which gives users more functionality.

The virtual desktop app is especially important as users can stream their PC-only VR games to their Oculus Quest 2 headset. It’s also possible to surf the internet and watch movies – it essentially brings the desktop experience to your face. However, the app isn’t free: it brings back $ 19.99 for users.
