META’s Fb Watch Needs To Be The NEXT Apple Watch

Facebook wasn’t very lucky with its hardware releases, but under its new company name META, the company plans to develop a smartwatch – the Facebook Watch – that will compete with the Apple Watch …

Facebook is now controlled by META. Facebook changed its company name to reflect changes in the way the company works. Today it’s more than just a social network. It’s a big part of the internet, thanks to its ownership of Instagram, Oculus, and Whatsapp, and it has plans to do more.

META is now actively developing a trio of smartwatches to keep up the Apple Watch. This project is currently being worked on and the end result is a Facebook watch that can rival Apple’s market leading wearable. And unlike the Apple Watch, it will have a few USPs up its sleeve.

Meta’s Facebook Watch: Zuckerberg’s plan to turn off the Apple Watch

META is apparently planning a number of Meta Watches. While none are official yet, there are at least three models or generations of devices in development. And the Facebook Watch could reportedly be available as early as 2022.

Like the Apple Watch, the Facebook Watch will have all the usual smartwatch stuff – things like apps and fitness tracking. But one thing the Apple Watch won’t have is the ability to make video calls, a feature Apple deliberately left out on its Apple Watch.

META has already unveiled some of its plans, including its plans to launch VR exercises. What this involves is how you’d expect to strap a VR headset to your head and then “do a workout,” which is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

I mean, exercising is about getting out of the house, running, or lifting weights in a gym. Or cycling or climbing. Get some fresh air, some vitamin D, work up a sweat. Don’t strap on a VR headset and jump around your living room like an idiot. But I digress …

Specifications of the Facebook watch

Nothing has been confirmed about the type of hardware and / or specifications of the Facebook Watch. However, with the built-in video calling feature, it consumes a considerable battery. In addition, it requires a number of sensors and a very good chipset. Apple is now seven generations ahead, investing billions in research and development of its Apple Watch, so it won’t be an easy task to catch up – even for a company with the resources of META.

The reality of the Facebook Watch, like most new products released for this or that, is likely to be pretty boring. There will of course be video calls and all the usual things you get with a smartwatch like fitness and sleep tracking. But will that be enough to convince millions of people NOT to get an Apple Watch?

I do not think so; Apple Watch is an extension of the iPhone. And the iPhone is very popular. If you buy an iPhone and want to keep track of your health and fitness, 8 out of 10 people will just buy an Apple Watch. The rest probably lean towards something more fitness-focused, like a Garmin watch. Facebook – or META as it is called today – doesn’t have the same brand appeal as these two brands.

Would EVERYONE buy a Facebook Watch through an Apple Watch or a Garmin?

Billions of people use Facebook products, for sure. But unlike Apple and Garmin, Facebook feels more like a utility company, like your gas or electricity company, a necessary evil to get your life going. Apple and Garmin, meanwhile, actually have brand appeal. Nobody likes Facebook or what it stands for, not if they are 100% honest and / or understand how the company actually works and collects data. That’s why the company IMHO changed its name – it was a PR gag.

I would never buy any of Facebook’s physical products. I don’t even use Facebook anymore. I also know that I am not alone; Millions of people have left Facebook for one reason or another in recent years. And his creepy plans for a VR universe, his focus on removing kids and teens even further from the real world, will only compound the exodus of people from his walled garden.

And no “smartwatches” or “VR headsets” will stop this. Not if privacy and yours mental health of the child Are at stake. I don’t think Apple is going to lose sleep because of the Facebook Watch. This is not META’s first hardware rodeo. It’s like the third or fourth attempt and so far the company has shown it has no credibility in this regard.
