Meta Quest 2 Is Already Changing Oculus Quest 2 Branding

One week after the Connect conference, Meta is continuing to rename Oculus Quest 2 to Meta Quest 2.

In last week’s keynote address, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Meta is the new company name for Facebook. Almost all of the individual services under the umbrella of the company, including Whatapp, Instagram and the actual social platform Facebook itself, keep their names. But shortly after the keynote speech, Meta’s Andrew Bosworth revealed that the Oculus brand, which covers VR products and services, would be replaced with the meta branding. Bosworth stated, “You will see the transition from Oculus Quest from Facebook to Meta Quest and from Oculus App to Meta Quest App over time.”

It turned out that “over time” was just over a week – the Meta Quest 2 branding is already prominently featured in a new blog post on the official Oculus website. Confused still?

The article outlines a new installation in the Downtown Disney District in the Disneyland Resort, which will present Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy’s Edge at “Meta Quest 2”. Promotional art for the installation shown above also bears the Meta Quest 2 logo, although the Oculus symbol is at the center of the art. Unfortunately, we cannot tell whether the logo on the Quest headset itself stands for Oculus or Meta. But if you try to buy a Quest 2 at the top of the same page, it will still be called an Oculus Quest 2 for the time being.

The intro of the post reads: “Meta Quest and ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s award-winning immersive entertainment studio, are offering a special Quest 2 preview” of the game. He later adds that “this type of event for Meta Quest at Disneyland Resort is the first time ever”.

It seems like this change is happening pretty quickly towards the holiday season. What do you think of the Meta Quest 2 branding? Let us know in the comments below!
