Greatest Horror VR Video games you possibly can play on Oculus Quest 2, PSVR and Valve Index

Halloween is getting closer and closer and we have the perfect trick to get you in the creepy seasonal mood: play one of these terrifying horror VR games.

When horror movies are no longer terrifying enough for you, these games are the perfect cure – they put you right in the middle of the action and are sure to give you a real scare.

Whether you’re rocking the standalone Oculus Quest 2, PC VR headsets like the HTC Vive or Valve Index, or you’re a PlayStation owner with PSVR, we’ve got a mix of games for you to choose from.

From survival horror adventures to comedy horror stories to downright disturbing thrillers, you are sure to find something on this list to get your heart rate racing.

Resident Evil 4 VR

Resident Evil 4 VR is an incredible remake of the classic survival horror game for the Oculus Quest 2 platform. Armed with nothing but a knife, a pistol and the tools you can loot along the way, your mission to rescue the US President’s daughter must fight off parasite-infested animals and monsters.

Thanks to the wide range of comfort options available, this is a game that will leave you scared instead of uncomfortable. The immersive controls are awesome too: you’ll truly feel like Leon S. Kennedy as you stare at a horde of angry villagers trying to rip you apart limb – it is enough to get your heart racing.

If you own a PSVR headset instead, give Resident Evil 7: Biohazard a try. This game features a lot of what makes Resident Evil 4 great in VR, and puts you against equally terrible odds as you try to escape the evil Baker family’s ranch.

Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a great VR game if you want to enjoy something with your friends and you can play with them whether they are using a headset or just a PC in online co-op.

As a team of up to four investigators, you and your friends must explore haunted locations to gather evidence of paranormal activity. However, be careful because the ghosts will not be too happy if you disturb their final resting place.

Sure, you can play on your regular PC, but putting on a VR headset will immerse you in the experience in a more satisfying way. The ghosts look much more terrifying, and the game’s eerie atmosphere becomes even more intense when you’re right in the middle of the action.

Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help wanted

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has become synonymous with first-person jump scares, and this VR entry on the series is no different. If anything, the more immersive nature of Help Wanted only amplifies the sense of fear you feel when you eventually find that animatronics is missing from its usual location.

As with other games in the franchise, you slip into the role of the world’s most unlucky night watchman, whose job it is to watch over the Chuck E. Cheese-style animatronics that seem to come to life overnight. Using cameras, lights, disguises and door controls, you have to hide from the monsters and survive until morning.

If you’ve tried a Five Nights at Freddy’s game before and weren’t a fan of the somewhat repetitive gameplay, Help Wanted may not mess the formula enough to keep you occupied beyond one or the other optional mini-game. From our point of view, however, Help Wanted is by far the scariest entry in the series and is well worth a try for both long-time fans and newbies alike.

If you want to immerse yourself even more in the spirit of the spooky season, the Curse of Dreadbear Halloween DLC expansion might be just what you need.

The Exorcist: Legion VR

There are plenty of great VR games inspired by popular horror movie franchises like Blair Witch. However, if you’re looking for a thoroughly dreadful feast, The Exorcist: Legion VR is a disturbing choice that you won’t want to ignore.

Instead of relying on cheap jump scares, The Exorcist creates an atmosphere that will send chills down your spine in its five chapters. But the gameplay itself isn’t the most demanding as most of the game’s difficulty comes from having to face the dark stranger head-on.

Whether you love the horror movie series or have not seen a single one of the movies, this is a great VR horror game selection that you should definitely try out if you are scared of anything.

Wraith: The Oblivion – Life After Death

If you’re looking for the ultimate haunted house experience this Halloween, you can’t get better than Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife. The sprawling, spooky mansion where the game takes place perfectly balances a great sense of size and yet can still give you a sense of claustrophobia as you navigate the maze of halls and corridors.

In this slight twist on the genre, you can play as an undead creature yourself: that is, as a Wraith. While your powers are useful in trying to solve the mystery behind your own death, they will not protect you from the horrific monsters that roam the mansion halls as well.

These ghosts help create true horror movie experiences and cause tense moments where you instinctively hold your breath to prevent them from finding you while you hide in a closet.

PSVR players – Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife will come to the platform of your choice on October 27th, just in time for Halloween.

Hello dolls! VR

If you want a few giggles to help overcome your fear, you might like Hello Puppets! VR. This one-of-a-kind horror comedy game takes you through a long-abandoned studio for a faux Muppets named Mortimer’s Handeemen.

The studio mascots came to life as evil incarnations of their former selves, and they need your body to accomplish their sinister goals – a pretty normal horror story.

This game is definitely more horror than comedy, but Scout – your talking hand puppet companion – adds many moments of ease and is always right by your side when you face the horrors this game has to offer.

Arizona sunshine

Arizona Sunshine may be the least horror-filled entry on this list, especially if you play it with friends. But if you want to give what to expect to the undead, you will love this survival horror title.

The game’s realistic weapons game lets you immerse yourself in its masterfully crafted levels where you and up to three co-op buddies have an absolute blast as you fight for your life against a horde of undead.

It’s also the oldest entry on this list – it was published almost five years ago – but it’s just as amazing today. If anything, its age could mean you can grab this game during a sale or in a discounted bundle with its DLC, which is never a bad thing.

Duck season

Duck Season takes you back to your favorite childhood memories of playing classic games like Duck Hunt, then drags you into a terrifying nightmare as the dark story unfolds.

Set in a world inspired by the 1980s, this horror game is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys solving mysteries and uncovering secrets. While a dog plays a prominent role in this adventure, we promise it cannot be compared to Scooby Doo.

It only takes about an hour to complete a storyline, which is not long at all for a game. Still, there’s so much more hidden in this game that you’ll want to keep coming back to find out more.
