SafeZoneVR Is An Upcoming Free Survival Horror Sport For Quest And PC VR

SafeZoneVR is an upcoming VR survival horror game available on most major VR platforms. Even better, it’ll be completely free.

The game is the work of a single student developer, Will Codes, who has been working on the title for the past two years. SafeZone VR is published on itch.io completely free of charge. Support for PC VR and Oculus Quest is listed on the game’s Itch.io page.

The game takes place in a ‘SafeZone’ that has fallen and is now abandoned. You must “flee, clean up, survive as you fight your own psychological warfare as darkness falls on you.”

It’s a classic premise of a fake research experiment where a narrator talks about how the study participants, four pairs, were given pistols to fight a creature. The shots only angered the creature and the participants were all missed after the study ended.

You can check out some raw, unedited gameplay here, but it seems pretty normal for VR horror. You will be walking around with a torch, illuminating dark areas and looking for clues as to what happened.

While the game’s setting and ambiance seem a little creepy, we’re interested in seeing what actual horror elements are implemented. Undoubtedly, the above creature from the experiment will be used as a horror device, but how else are tension and ghosts built up during the game?

SafeZoneVR will be available soon for PC VR and Oculus Quest and will be available for free on Itch.io.
