Fb Goals For Month-to-month Oculus Quest Software program Updates

John Carmack, Consulting CTO at Facebook’s Oculus, encourages Oculus Quest users to provide feedback on their experience with Quest and Quest 2 headsets, particularly software and user experience.

In a series of tweets on Monday that Carmack linked to the Quest User Voice forum, he encouraged Quest users to “share your thoughts on Quest and Quest 2”. While admitting that the User Voice platform needed “a number of updates,” he said it was the right place to provide feedback on the headset experience.

We aim to have monthly software releases, so there are many options for software functionality. The head start for hardware changes is measured in years. So don’t expect too much exercise.

Carmack noted that the team “looks for monthly software releases,” which “offers many opportunities for software functionality.” While the User Voice forum is open to both hardware and software suggestions, Carmack said, “The lead in hardware changes is measured in years. So don’t expect too much exercise there. “

This prompted a Twitter user to question Carmack about the requirement of a Facebook login to use Oculus headsets (removal of which is currently the second most rated feature requirement on the Quest User Voice forums). Carmack’s answer was clear and said, “FB login won’t go away.” He then said that he felt the User Voice forum needed more regular updates, with staff marking requests as “do not change,” “processed,” or “scheduled to ship.”

A user asked Carmack if there were any performance issues when considering whether an app like Spotify or Discord could run in the background while using the headset. Carmack said there were “performance issues with any feature that could be mixed up with an aggressive VR game,” and that the team is going back and forth over whether to allow a feature if it can’t be guaranteed to work properly at all times . He said allowing native Android apps to run in the background on a quest was “an intense discussion internally.”
